Policy Implications
If the process works as intended and produces a robust and economic carbon negative process, then it will have profound implications on public policy.
Emission trading schemes, which depend on a scarcity of credits to drive the price, will become irrelevant; some people will believe that with climate change ‘cured’ they can carry on exploiting the earth’s resources in an unsustainable manner; once it is possible to operate a carbon negative process, the moral pressure will increase for everyone to ‘clean up their mess’ – up until now one of the reasons that that hasn’t happened is that there has not been a practical way to remove carbon dioxide
- What are the economic implications of polluters having to bear the cost of their pollution?
